Tour Kick Off - Meet and Greet - Wolves of Calderwood: Dead Angels

Horror/Urban Fantasy
Date Published: 3/16/2013

Early morning and a woman lies dead in the street, her end violent and strange.
A man loses his mother. A detective finds himself caught between, between the city and  the underworld. A wolf wanders aimlessly in search of a killer, in search of an end. All  three are haunted by ghosts of half-remembered moments; all three, trapped in a city,  this city that holds its secrets loose and its citizens tight. This city of dogs. This city of  demons. Calderwood.

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?

I'm heading off to medical school in under a month, so probably not. I see it more as a beloved hobby or perhaps even a secondary career. I think having a primary career is important when it comes to writing.  Financial benefits aside, it gives you access to experiences that may heavily influence your writing. George Orwell wrote about his experiences as a tutor and being homeless in “Down and Out In Paris and London”, which is one of my favorite books. Even working at a call center can be inspiring if you find ways to make it so.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?

I guess my biggest problem is sitting down and actually writing a story. I have notebooks filled with scenes or lines that I was randomly inspired to write. The worst part is taking them and filling in the blanks. I guess that's the unsexy part of writing: cohesion.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?

Yes, Jess, a close of friend of mine. The book was actually dedicated to her. She had the patience to sit and read my book over and over again. Even with scenes that she had read one hundred times, she was willing to offer up new suggestions. She was also brutally honest, to the point that it stung sometimes. In one scene I had written, there was a line that struck her as a little “crime-story-cut-to-commercial-zinger”. So she wrote out the CSI:Miami theme song in the margins. Every writer needs a Jess in their life.

#4 – What is next for your writing?

As I said, I'm starting up medical school in a month, but I have every intention to keep going with writing. It's a great way for me to unwind and escape the stressors of my life. My favorite thing to do is to go to my local bar, have a drink, and write. And maybe eat. A lot. Whatever gets the job done.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?

Absolutely I do. I am currently reading “The Angel's Game” by Carlos Ruiz Zafón. It's a follow up of sorts to one of my favorite books: “The Shadow of the Wind”. After that, I'm shifting over to nonfiction to read “Panic in Level 4” by Richard Preseton”. He has a special talent for describing in terrifying detail diseases that will kill us all one day.

Tour Kick Off - Meet and Greet - Why Is The Sky Blue? by Shabana

Children's Book

While playing at the beach, two boys begin to wonder why the sky is blue and ask their mother to explain the reason to them. As they are very young, their mother needs to decide how best to explain to her boys. She discusses the phenomenon of the blue sky in a manner that even her six year old can understand. While addressing their initial query, the boys come up with several other related questions, and the mother answers them all with simple facts and drawings. To make it easier and more interesting, she performs a fun experiment with her boys, which shows them why the sky is blue at sunrise and red/orange at sunset.

The book is a must have for all those curious kids who are trying to make sense of the world around them, and for all those parents who want to satisfy their curiosity.

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
I love reading and writing. Writing has always been part of my career in one way or another. I’ve just started writing for children, and I’m enjoying it tremendously. I’ll have to see where this takes me.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
I have written for adults before; never written for children though. I don’t think it’s easy to grab children’s attention and retain it so that they grasp the logic behind things. I found it challenging to write in a manner that’s easy to understand, thought-provoking, and interesting without losing the real meaning behind concepts.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?
My family and friends reviewed my book and provided me with their feedback. It helped me in improving the book based on their comments. Their response and encouragement also helped me with my occasional moments of anxiety and personal doubts.

#4 – What is next for your writing?
I am planning on writing a series of non-fiction books for children. I will start working on my next book soon. The ideas are there. I just have to start working on them.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?
I usually read books by Danielle Steele, Jackie Collins, Jo Nesbo, John Grisham, J.D. Robb, Nora Roberts, Robert Ludlum, Sidney Sheldon, and a few other authors. I also read non-fiction books, especially when recommended by friends. You’ll find me happiest when I am reading, writing or performing experiments with my kids. Currently, I am reading a children’s book, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. Reading children’s books gives me the opportunity to discuss them with my kids; understand their thought process and depth of understanding.

Mystical powers. Cosmic adventure. Universally dynamic forces. A gifted individual has been commissioned to take part in of all these phenomenal occurrences.
Stuart Duffelmeyer is an NYU student who is targeted by eight of his egomaniacal college classmates once they learn he wants to find a beautiful date for the night. His classmates lure him to a sleazy motel where they play out a heinous prank. His night ends in utter disappointment after learning that his classmates only used him for their perverted entertainment purposes. Stuart suffered severely as a result of their callous behavior and feels he must get even with his tormentors.
A chance encounter allows him to discover a magical Hebrew talisman with indescribable powers. Stuart is taken away from Earth and into the far regions of another galaxy once the talisman is consecrated. The spirit of his one-time chief advisor, Rabbi Irwin Wedemeyer, explains to him that the talisman will grant him miraculous powers over all the creatures and elements of the Earth. Rabbi Wedemeyer insists that Stuart not abuse the powers bestowed upon him. He returns to Earth and quickly seeks out his vengeance.
Stuart’s absolute domination over Earthly creatures and elements brings plagues of unspeakable horrors into the lives of his one-time tormentors. He finds closure once his former college classmates return to offer their apologies to him. He also finds fulfillment by using his powers to intercept the transgressive acts inflicted by the immoral people of society. This stirring tale delivers the purest message of magic and morality.

#1— Do you see Writing as a Career?
I most certainly see writing as a career. I enjoy the challenges and rewards that come with writing. Being creative can be the most exhilarating feeling in the world. Having your readers enjoy what you’ve written can equally as enjoyable.

#2— What was the Hardest part of your Writing Process?
Writing a novel isn’t an easy process. I’d have to say that writing and re-writing, and then writing and re-writing some more, can be a daunting task. But when you enjoy what’re you’re doing, it makes writing and creating all the sweeter.

#3— Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?
There were several people who helped me out. First, I had some co-workers to read some of my novel even before it was published. They really liked what they read. Next, I had a very talented English professor to edit the manuscript for my novel. She did a phenomenal job. My co-workers and the editor gave me valuable feedback, which helped me tremendously in the end.

#4— What is next for your writing?
There is so much more that I’d like to write about. Actually, I’d like to continue with more sequels to my fantasy novel, Master of Plagues. Stuart Duffelmeyer, the main character in Master of Plagues, has so much more to do. He has other planets and galaxies and Universes to explore and maintain order. I’d like to write several more novels outside of the others.

#5— Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?
I most definitely have an addiction to reading as well as writing. I’ve always been an avid reader of many different genres. A good book is a good book, no matter what genre it falls under. I’ve probably read well over 600 books in my lifetime. Currently, I am reading the novel, The Racketeer, by John Grisham.

Then an American heiress falls in his lap, literally, and he must find a way to keep
