The Exception To The Rule

The Exception to the Rule
ISBN 0615739229 (ISBN13: 9780615739229)
Contemporary Romance
Date to be Published: 12/19/2012

Synopsis:

When Katrina “Kat” Vallia, an idealistic if somewhat naive 20-something American pediatrician travels halfway across the globe to volunteer in a poor African village, she looks at it as a means of closure. Following a bitter breakup with her unfaithful boyfriend, she decides to throw herself into her work without any distractions from a man. That’s until she encounters Dr. Julian Kiron, a handsome, career driven pediatric oncologist. Even though she tries to fight it, Kat finds herself falling deeply for him; until she painfully realizes that they both want totally different things from life. Not willing to compromise for the other, they sadly say goodbye, cutting all ties. Five years later, Kat’s happy world is turned upside down when she is given devastating news. She must now confront her past and the secret she’s harbored for years. But will saving the one she loves most also rekindle the love she let slip away?

EXCERPT:

We talked for some time and I could tell he was getting tired, his skin looked paler than usual and the light color of his eyes just enhanced the dark circles that were beginning to form underneath.
“Are you tired?” I asked.
“A little,” he finally admitted.
“But I thought you didn’t get tired,” I teased as I got up to grab the blanket from the other couch, turning off the overhead light. I looked out the window to see a light snow falling. I sat back down on the couch covering us both with the blanket as we watched TV with just the glow of the fireplace and Christmas tree lights. He had his arms wrapped tightly around me as I rested my head on his chest.
“Thank you,” I whispered.
“For what?” he asked.
“For being here.”
I smiled when he pulled me closer and gently kissed my head. It didn’t take long before I heard his breathing begin to change and as I looked up I saw he was sound asleep. I put my head back down on his chest, kissing it softly. Just knowing he was here beside me, listening to his heartbeat and feeling him breathe, put my mind at such ease that it wasn’t long before I was fast asleep too.

Author Bio
Ever since I can remember, I have always enjoyed Creative Writing. There was always something about being able to travel to a different place or become a different person with just the stroke of a pen - or in today's world a touch of the keyboard. I have been writing poetry for years and finally got the inspiration to write my very first novel about a year and a half ago. Once I started the idea's kept flowing, my fingers kept typing - and here it is! It's a beautiful love story that focuses on so many different relationships: the love of a man and a woman, a parent and a child, friendships and those that are not bound to us by blood but by love. So, I'm hoping all of you get as much enjoyment reading this as I did writing it! Oh and here's a little bit about bit me - my life is not as interesting as the story or the characters in it, but then again whose life is? I was born and have lived in New Jersey my whole life. I'm a mom of twin teenage boys, a teenage step-son, a crazy Border Collie and a cat with an identity crisis! I guess you can say writing is my form of Calgon! I am married to a wonderful guy - but we'll keep that between us, I don't want him getting a big head! Thanks for taking the time to learn about my book and me! If you decide to read it (and I hope you do! ) please be sure to go on and review it for me - yes, even if you don't like it!

Reading Addiction Blog Tours MEET and GREET

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
I do see writing as a career and it’s a career I want.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
Editting. The devil is in the detail. The fun part is telling the story. The hard work begins after the story is done. Not going to lie. I do not have an eye for details and I’m a big picture person. Telling the stories is the fun part, and the hardest part is chopping up the sentence structure, even though you received an ‘A’ in grammar. I know what I say in my head, and it’s supposed to be on screen.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?
I wish my mother read my writing. She loves me and supports me, but I wish for my family. Other people who helped though, are the many people I thanked. My local writing community in South Florida is my center. Sheena, Edi, Ody are all local writers who I meet regularly with. And I do love my Florida Romance Writers group. They are an amazing group!

#4 – What is next for your writing?
I sent my other series to my editor which takes Greek Myths to the modern era. It’s so fun. And with Theseus, I set up a sequel. I’m in the midst of writing the story about Haemon and Antigone. My contemporary series is related to retelling the myths of the past. I wrote the contemporaries first, and the first one in the series is with my awesome editor, Brittiany Koren.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?
Do I have addictions? Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups! Star Wars, and count me in the excited that Disney bought them grouping. Science Fiction shows in general. I have books on my to be read file. I used to be an avid reader, but I’m writing in November for Nanowrimo. Next month, I’m sure I’ll read a friend’s book.

This or That?

#1 - iPd or Mp3?
MP3s are easier to manipulate.

#2 – Chocolate or Vanilla?
Can I have both? If I must choose Chocolate!

#3 – Mashed Potatoes or French Fries?
I’m Irish Catholic. The potato is important. If I’m going to my mom’s to eat though, I want mashed. With a burger fries, making me particular with the main course I guess.

#4 – Comedy or Drama?
Comedy. I wish they made more romantic comedies. I miss Sandra Bullock movies.

#5 – Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks?
Danielle Steel out of these two, but honestly, neither are my go too. Victoria Dahl, Jennifer Cruisie are my must reads. Steel’s early I hear is amazing, and Sparks kills off his people.

#6 – Fantasy or Reality?
Fantasy. Truth is my reality is pretty upbeat and prefer being an optimist.

#7 – Call or Text?
Call me. If you are giving directions, texts. But I don’t want to type out essays to my friends and get multiple texts back. It’s easier to call.

#8 – Public School or Home School?
Public School. We’re losing the ability to socialize in the computer age. I’m wishing we had more face to face time as we learn from each other.

#9 – Coffee or Hot Chocolate
Coffee wakes me up, but hot chocolate is delicious. For everyday purposes, coffee.

#10 – eBook or Paperback?
I read more with my eBooks, but I love print books. I tend to do both, but lately the ebook has been winning due to convenience.
