Who knew immortality would be such a bitch.
Boot Camp for Vamps has a new prisoner, and Ria is testing her new world of rules and regulations, fighting her oldest nemesis—conformity. Her key battle is keeping her individuality and hiding her phoenix powers.
With an uptight mentor, an estranged werewolf, and an unlikely band of humans on her side, Ria must first survive her trials, designed to break her by a queen hell bent on making her suffer...let the nightmare begin.

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?

I do—doubly, in fact. Well, I might even say it’s a triple career. Although I’m a part-time writer, I am completely immersed in writing due to my editorial position at my newly launched company, Transmundane Press, and with my English professorship at a local Oklahoma university. So when I’m not writing or editing my own novels and stories, I’m editing others’ work, which is just as rewarding.

As for my writing career, my goal is to continue producing quality stories for my readers. The Blood Phoenix thread should amount to five, Ria-centric novels within the Broken World series. Her nemesis, Phea, has her own novelette, “Maiden of the Underworld,” due out in November 2014, which explains the birth of vampires in their world. I also have twenty-three other novels and stories planned for this world so far, so I don’t plan on stopping any time soon.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?

The writing process is a funny phenomenon because whichever part I’m on seems to be the hardest at the time, but the intensive editing process seems to take the most out of me. I have five to seven stages of editing, and my eliminating wordiness stage is the most difficult of them all.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?

I have quite a number of people help me with my writing outside of my family. I completed my MFA in Creative Writing a year and a half ago, and my mentors Allison Hedge Coke, Rilla Askew, and James Daro were amazing. I also need to give credit to Constance Squires, for even though we disagree about genre, she taught me a hell of a lot about plot and characterization. Also, my fellow editor, Anthony S. Buoni, does wonders to my style and ego.

#4 – What is next for your writing?

I have two books waiting for me to edit them currently, both a part of the Broken World series and both focusing on other parts of the world. I’m shaping up Siren Sisters: Dragonfish to submit to Avon Publishing, and I’ve just finished the first draft of Loving Red, which will be released by Transmundane Press in 2015.

My co-editor and I are also releasing Distorted, an anthology about modern mythos, in November 2014, which will contain “Maiden of the Underworld.”

And finally, I have just begun book three in the Blood Phoenix novels.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?

When I find the time, I love to read. This is why I love to edit. I’m currently reading Victor Gischler’s Vampire a Go-Go and Felix J. Palma’s The Map of Time. I just finished reading Jim C. Hine’s Libriomancer.

    1. Hi, Stacey! I'm so glad to hear you say that. I've always loved to play with various types of creatures, especially when I can put a twist on them. Which creatures are your favorites?
