Tour Kick Off - Meet and Greet - O! Jackie by Mercedes King

Mainstreem/Commercial/Literary
Date to be Published: 12/29/2012

Despite her poise and graceful smile, Jackie Kennedy’s life was far from perfect. Behind closed doors, Jackie struggled with bouts of depression, endured a heartbreaking road to motherhood, and had difficult relationships with those closest to her. Ravaged by insecurities and humiliation, she even wrestled her own temptations for both other men and divorce. But Jackie clung to the belief that she could make JFK abandon his wandering ways. Through the years, though, Jack Kennedy’s lustful escapades grew in carelessness and frequency, and most needling for Jackie were his trysts with Marilyn Monroe. When Marilyn becomes erratic and unstable, Jackie must decide how far she will go to protect the presidency and to save her marriage.

Reading Addiction Blog Tours MEET and GREET

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
Writing is my passion. If I can end up making money at it one day, then all the
better.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
With any project, every project page one is the toughest challenge. How do you
hook the reader, present a conflict or problem, and introduce a character people will
instantly want to stick with for 300 or so pages? Once you get past that part, you can--
and do--go back and edit, but getting it started can be oh-so-hard.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of
Your Family?
Yes, I have a friend who’s a great mentor, and she always catches weaknesses in
my writing that I miss. Some of her advice has been, “Use strong verbs, concrete nouns,”
and when it comes to editing, “Prune ruthlessly.” And like any good friend, she grounds
me. I’m also active with my Sisters in Crime group. Spending time with fellow writers is
always helpful and inspiring.

#4 – What is next for your writing?
I have two other novels completed and plan to dive into the search for an agent.
And then there are all those books left to write…

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently
reading?
Like most authors, I love to read and have many favorite authors. I’m a bit behind
the curve on this one, but right now I’m reading Gone Girl and really enjoying it. Next
on the nightstand is The Essay.

DESCRIBE Your Book in 1 Tweet: O! Jackie explores the private life of Jackie Kennedy
and how she dealt with JFK’s affairs, including his trysts with Marilyn Monroe.

This or That?

#1 - iPd or Mp3? iPod

#2 – Chocolate or Vanilla? One scoop of each, please!

#3 – Mashed Potatoes or French Fries? French Fries

#4 – Comedy or Drama? You can never go wrong with a comedy.

#5 – Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks? Tough! They both create compelling characters
and unforgettable stories. If you twist my arm I’ll pick Nicholas Sparks.

#6 – Fantasy or Reality? Reality, where I can make my fantasies come true.

#7 – Call or Text? Text…a little ashamed to admit, but it’s often convenient and a time-
saver.

#8 – Public School or Home School? Home school (I’m currently home schooling my 5
kids and loving it! It’s a big decision for any family though.)

#9 – Coffee or Hot Chocolate? I LOVE Hot Chocolate, year-round. Weird, isn’t it?

#10 – eBook or Paperback? Still a big fan of paperback, even though my Kindle sees
plenty of action these days.
