Teaser: Audit This! by Anne Kane #excerpt #mystery #romance #comingsoon #rabtbooktours @changelingpress @annekane

Interracial Romance, Mystery & Suspense

Date Published: May 22, 2026

No matter how you add the numbers, Nick is one hunk of an auditor!

When government tax auditor Nick finds himself obsessed with the work of romance author Khloe Matters, there's only one thing to do. Audit her! But getting a closer look at the author in her own home just makes him switch his obsession from the writing to the writer.

When he accompanies her to a writers' festival, things heat up in a hurry. Neither of them is being entirely honest, and as the weekend progresses so does the hilariously tangled webs of deceit as each of them seeks to further their own agenda.

EXCERPT

"What do you mean you're disallowing ninety percent of the expenses I claimed?" Khloe tried not to scream at the smug smile on the auditor's face. Hard to believe her libido had jumped to attention when he'd first showed up at her door. Just went to show how bad a judge of character she was. "You can't do that. They are all legitimate business deductions."

"Really?" The man raised one of those perfect brows. "Care to explain how a trip to Spain qualifies as a business expense? You're a writer. You don't have to leave the house. You don't even have to get dressed."

Khloe gritted her teeth, taking a deep breath to calm herself down before she answered. She knew his name. Nicholas Carver. She just didn't think a government auditor deserved such an impressive name. Calling him a dumb-assed bean counter probably wouldn't help her situation, though.

"Although I have not claimed any clothing expenses, I assure you I do have to get dressed. My neighbours are a conservative bunch. I do have to leave the house occasionally, and I generally make a point of putting some clothes on before I do. That trip was for research." Well, duh, what else would it be? Maybe this guy got all the looks and none of the brains. "My last mystery novel was set in Madrid during the running of the bulls. I needed to be there to get the feel of the place and understand the atmosphere, how the crowd reacted. I wouldn't stay in business long if I didn't pay attention to the little details. Readers can smell a mistake a mile away, and if I lose their trust I'll be working at the grocery store for a fraction of what I make writing."

The auditor snorted. "Quite the drama queen, aren't you? I might accept the research excuse if the tone came through in your work, assuming we're talking about a published manuscript. Do you have a copy of that alleged book?"

The sceptical tone of his voice, not to mention his use of the word "alleged," set Khloe's teeth on edge. How dare he sit there in his perfectly pressed suit and make her justify every item on her tax return? Oh right. He was the almighty tax department auditor! Maybe it would help if she curtseyed or kissed his ring or something.

She smiled sweetly. "Of course." Turning, she ran her fingers along the spines of the books on the shelf. Plucking Bullfighter's Downfall out, she handed it to him. It took quite some effort to keep her smile from turning into a snarl. "I hope you enjoy it. It spent two months on the New York Times Best Sellers list."

He took the book, his brows rising at the cover picturing a couple in a passionate embrace against a backdrop of the famous bull run. Turning the book over, he read the back cover before looking up at her. "Romantic suspense? You're one of those kinds of authors?"

Okay, he might be the big-shot auditor, and he had the ability to make her life, not to mention her finances, a living hell, but he had no right to use that tone of voice when describing the genre she loved.

"Exactly what do you mean by that?" She straightened up to her full five feet five inches and glared down at him. "If you mean one of those authors who can take two characters, introduce them to each other and make them fall passionately and fervently in love while they dodge bullets, murder, mayhem and other nasty plot points, then yes. I'm one of these kinds of authors. And in case you don't believe me, you might want to ask the thousands of readers whose buying habits have put me on the New York Times Best Sellers list time and again."

"No need to get defensive. It's hardly War and Peace but I'm sure it's a very nice story."

It took all of her willpower not to grab the heaviest book on the shelf and smack him over the head with it. War and Peace indeed! "Have you ever tried to read War and Peace?" She took a step forward, gratified at his flinch. "My books are meant to entertain people and take them away from their everyday lives, not bore them to death."

He had the grace to look uncomfortable. "Well, no, I haven't actually read it. I'm more of a John Grisham fan. Lots of war but not much peace."

She felt the tension in her gut relaxing a bit. He wasn't quite the pretentious prig he looked like. Actually, if she took an honest look at him, he resembled the cover models for some of her steamier books.

And that gave her an idea.

Release Blitz: Love and War by Shirra Lynn #promo #releaseday #bwwm #interracialromance #romance #excerpt #rabtbooktours

BWWM Interracial Romance

Date Published: Feb 12, 2021

She’s a singer posing as a maid. He’s a surgeon forced to serve the Reich. For both of them, deception is the only way to survive the war.

Cocktail singer Victoire Duplanchier knows Nazi-occupied Paris is not safe for a black woman. But that’s exactly why she’s trying to get her family out. When she’s caught in a roundup, a man with ocean-blue eyes saves her from being sent to an unknown fate. But can she really trust him? He might seem kind and handsome, but he’s also a Nazi.

Surgeon, Emil von Konig, was duped into serving the Reich by his deceitful father. When he encounters Victoire, he knows he needs to keep her safe. He offers refuge at his estate in the Parisian countryside, but in order to stay undetected, she must pose as his maid.

Their new roles as maid and master find them in close confines. As their connection grows their passion is impossible to ignore.

While war rages on around them, Emil and Victoire believe they are safe. But danger is closer than ever. When the true nature of their relationship is discovered, everything will be at risk.

Is their love strong enough to conquer the forces that conspire against them?

Excerpt

I sit up alert in my chair wondering what could be wrong. Herr von Konig seldom summons me, but I am on my feet and in the dining room within seconds. As I enter my heart flutters when his ocean blue eyes take me into their gaze.

“Yes, Herr von Konig,” I furrow my brows, “Is everything alright? Was your breakfast not warm...the coffee?” He smirks, but with soft eyes.

“No Victoire, everything is–was perfect, as usual,” he says to me in a calming tone, trying to reduce the anxiety he can see written on my face. It works. My brow relaxes as I look at him trying to slow my breathing to a normal rate.

“Tonight, I have yet another event to attend in the city,” I swallow trying not to show my disappointment.

“I understand Monsieur,” I nod once.

“I have two surgeries today and will probably not make it back at a decent time to prepare, I would like it if you would assist me and layout my formal dress for me, pressed, and metals shined. I know it is much to ask of you among the other duties you carry out, but I--”

“Non, Monsieur,” I stop him, “It is my pleasure to serve you.” I don’t know why I say those words. They seemed to fly from my lips on wings, and I couldn’t catch them to bring them back and scold them for being so eager to leave me...but I see a light flicker behind his eyes, almost ablaze.

“Shall I teach you pleasure?” he asks.

Teaser Tuesday: Cinnamon & Sugar by RW Richard #promo #teasertuesday #excerpt #giveaway #newadult #romance #interracialromance #rabtbooktours @rwrichard_

New Adult, Interracial Romance

Date Published: January 18, 2021

Publisher: The Wild Rose Press

Humphrey Bertrand's genius-level IQ can't help him find his moral compass. His family is filled with racial conflicts and he struggles to find his own way. But he cannot let anyone drown, regardless of their skin color.

Alicia Bloom, a gifted valedictorian and poet runs away from an abusive situation. While she is thankful to Humphrey for saving her life she doesn't want to be tied to anyone.

When an attempt on her life forces them to hit the road together to stay one step ahead of a murderous maniac they wonder if their dreams of a future will be put on hold permanently.

Excerpt

A sweaty Alicia left the poolside gym, at the Marriot, near Dartmouth, New Hampshire. The pool and poolside were devoid of people except for Humphrey. She ogled him while he sprinted the butterfly up and down the outdoor sapphire pool. Droplets danced on his wide shoulders and lats. His incredible body caressed the waters, producing a smooth trowel the length of him. Every part of him made her yearn for a lover named Humphrey. On the run with the world’s cutest boy, one must avoid freefalling off a cliff. Rocks often awaited at the bottom.

He still put up makeshift curtains between their beds, but it had gotten cold at night.

She ran to their room and changed into a red, white, and blue bikini she had bought in Cambridge, but coming out on the deck, she chickened at the idea of getting wet.

He stopped his exercise and allowed his shoulders to slack, likely exhausted. He gawked when she sauntered over to near the pool’s edge in the patriotic swimsuit, and there he sloshed in water, mock fanning himself. Boys. But she was tickled to the point she almost squealed. Oh, he liked her figure all right.

He waved. “Come on in.” And saluted her.

True they still had the pool to themselves, so nobody would laugh at her awkwardness. “I don’t know how to swim.” She squinted from the bright sun.

“I can teach you.”

Tour Kick Off - Heartnapped by @daydreamingj

Contemporary / Interracial Romance
Date Published: July 9, 2014

Jayla Simmons never imagined herself working in a place like Vice, but what's a girl to do when she has a child to support all on her own? Her disdain for the place isn't limited to her occupation. Her boss, Carter Rossi, has had a strange fixation on her since she started dancing at Vice, and though she's reluctant to admit it, she's drawn to him as well. Carter Rossi is tired of the cat and mouse game he's been playing with Jayla's since the day she walked into his club. The son of Don Antonio Rossi has been denied few things in life, and Jayla Simmons will be no exception. He'll have her by any means necessary.

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
- I definitely see writing as my career. I'm a firm believer that people are happiest in their line of work when they make a career  out of doing what they love, and so, I'm just taking my own advice. Honestly though, I would write even if I viewed it as “just a hobby.” It's just so much fun for me to lose myself in these crazy ideas inside my head. I remember spending hours banging away at my keyboard before I ever made a dime from my writing, so I feel extremely blessed to be able to call this my career now.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
- The hardest part of my writing process is letting a story be. What I mean by that is that it's sometimes hard for me to allow a story to develop freely without having to beat down the urge to stifle my creativity based on what I'm worried others might think about a plot twist, a  character, a controversial topic addressed, a particular word used, or whatever. I constantly have to remind myself that telling a story honestly is far more important than  telling a story that everyone will approve of.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?
- I feel like my fellow authors indirectly help me to improve my writing, because every time I read a really great story, it challenges me to up my game, to delve a little bit deeper and push the limits of my storytelling ability.

#4 – What is next for your writing?
- I want to go in so many different directions with my writing. Readers can expect everything from Historical to Fantasy from me in the near future. I don't plan on shackling myself to a single genre, but certain things will always hold true in every story I tell. There will always be some kind of romantic element present (typical girl, what can I say?), My characters will always be of varying backgrounds (that's the way the world is after all) , and my stories will always be highly character driven. As for my next project, I'll be putting out the next three books in the Rossi Mafia Series during the early part of this year. Readers can keep up with my new releases by signing up for my mailing list on my website www.jessicalaneworld.com.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?
- I definitely have a reading addiction. I just started reading Wild by Cheryl Strayed, and I'm loving it!

DESCRIBE Your Book in 1 Tweet: Headstrong Jayla is about to learn that there are a few things in life that can't be outrun; love and fate are among them.

This or That?

#1 - iPd or Mp3? - Mp3 all the way!

#2 – Chocolate or Vanilla?- Vanilla. I'm one of about 20 people on the face of the planet who can't stand the taste of chocolate.

#3 – Mashed Potatoes or French Fries?- Both! Potatoes are that food for me. You know that one food you could eat everyday for the rest of your life and be completely satisfied. I like them fried, baked, mashed, etc.

#4 – Comedy or Drama?- That's a tough one, but I think I'll go with Drama since it tends to keep me on the edge of my seat.

#5 – Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks?-  Nicholas Sparks. I read The Notebook twelve times.

#6 – Fantasy or Reality?- Definitely fantasy. It's so much more fun to create your own reality.

#7 – Call or Text?- Text. It's easier to multitask that way.

#8 – Public School or Home School?- Public School. There are so many amazing people watching opportunities there, and my people watching usually leads to story ideas.

#9 – Coffee or Hot Chocolate- Coffee is one of my many addictions.

#10 – eBook or Paperback?- eBook. Same story but at a better price, and anyone that knows me will tell you that I'm frugal Fran.

I grew up in a tiny town with lots of room for my imagination to grow, and never outgrew my love for playing make believe. I developed my love for storytelling when I was very young, and used it as a way to escape and explain the world around me. That storytelling ability has grown and evolved a lot since then and taken me many different places. I'm having fun following where it leads me. I've been writing since I was a child; seriously, my mom has the crayon illustrated short stories to prove it. My writing has been mostly private since the end of my UIL creative writing days circa 1998. The writing bug bit me again when I was a freshman in high school, and I finally had the guts to publish my first e-book, Purple Hearts, in July of 2013! Now, I'm hooked, and determined to make a career out of this little passion of mine. My writing style is very direct with a little bit of humor. Alpha males are my guilty pleasure, but don't expect my female main characters to be passive damsels in distress. Every girl needs a little spark to her to keep the guys on their toes, right? I write mostly interracial/paranormal romance, but I've been toying with contemporary and historical romance plots as well. In short, I'm a dreamer by nature and an artist by trade. I endeavor to take my readers on a different journey with every new story I write.
