"It continues to astound me that this author has come up with something so completely original and interesting." Cynikat, Podiobooks reviewer.

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
I suppose, now, I am privileged to be able to say it is my career.  But it wasn’t always like that.  I had a book published in my twenties, but then I got married and had two children and – somehow – other things always seemed to get in the way.  When I finally got back to writing it was, I think, better and more intense for the wait.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
The hardest part was just keeping going.  Sometimes writing is easy – it flows really well; but other times you lose your way completely – especially in a series.  In the end, I found that the best thing to do was simply to go on writing even though I felt something wasn’t quite gelling.  Eventually you realize why what you have written is wrong, and that is the beginning of finding the right things to say and the right way to say it.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?
No; I wish I had.  Actually I haven’t even had as much help as I would have liked within the family, although this is not their fault.  I am married to a Spaniard who doesn’t speak any English, so that means he can’t read anything I write.  I wish he could!  He is very supportive, but I have always regretted not being able to share the series with him, except in sketchy verbal  summaries.  My son struggles a bit with reading in English too, so really it is only my daughter who reads my books.  Luckily she loves them and has given me great feedback.

#4 – What is next for your writing?
I have to finish the Ammonite Galaxy series.  I am working on Book 7 – the Trimorphs – now.  The first draft is finished, and I am hoping that it will be out sometime in the middle of 2015.  The Trimorphs is intended to be the end of the series, though I couldn’t bring myself to let go completely.  There is a loose end which may or may not lead to a spin-off.  Time will tell.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?
Yes, yes and yes!  I am an inveterate and fast reader.  Now I don’t allow myself to read novels when I am writing, so I binge read after finishing each book, bulk ordering books from Amazon.  This year I went through Nathan Lowell’s ‘Golden Age of the Solar Clipper’ series on the Kindle as well.  I started with Quarter Share, got hooked, and went through the whole series in four days!

DESCRIBE Your Book in 1 Tweet:
Wonderful, sparkling, mind-stretching  sci-fi adventure.  Three book omnibus!

This or That?

#1 - iPd or Mp3?
ipod

#2 – Chocolate or Vanilla?
No question here.  I’ve been unsuccessfully fighting back the chocolate temptation all my life and have no intention of stopping now ...

#3 – Mashed Potatoes or French Fries?
Mashed Potatoes if there is gravy, French Fries if there is ketchup.

#4 – Comedy or Drama?
Comedy, definitely.  I like Drama too, but I love that spark that makes you laugh despite yourself.

#5 – Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks?
Hmm. Difficult.  It depends on my mood at the time.  I have read both.

#6 – Fantasy or Reality?
No choice at all: Fantasy.  And Fantasy and sci-fi and fantasy.  I love being taken away to distant worlds and immersed in alien cultures.

#7 – Call or Text?
I like the respectful way texts and whatsApps wait for your conversation to be convenient to the receiver, but calling is more direct, more personal and allows emotions to creep through the line.  Both.

#8 – Public School or Home School?
Public School, I think, if possible.  Because of the interaction with other people and the variety it gives in teachers and teaching methods.  But I live in Spain; it would depend on the educative system.

#9 – Coffee or Hot Chocolate?
Oh, coffee, of course.  But now I have to drink it decaff, which is a great sacrifice.  These days, if I drink real coffee I can’t sleep.  When did that happen?  I used to be able to gulp down litres of the stuff with no ill effects whatsoever.  Sigh.

I am English, although I live in Spain now. I've worked at all sorts of things, but have been writing too, on and off, since I was little. I have always been passionate about cosmology and astrophysics, so it was exciting to be able to bring that aspect into the series.  I recently finished a masters in astronomy and astrophysics.
Valhai is the book I always wanted to write, but I got so involved with the characters myself that I simply had to go on writing about them, which turned a one-off novel into a series. I hope readers will identify with them and enjoy them too. I myself have been practically living in The Ammonite Galaxy for the last five years. It has become so real to me that I can almost touch it!
The books out so far in the series are:

Book One: Valhai

Book Two: Kwaide
Book Three: Xiantha
Book Four: Pictoria
Book Five: The Lost Animas
Book Six: The Namura Stone (published September2014)
Book Seven:  The Trimorphs (to be published 2015)

Ammonite Planets is the omnibus edition of Books #1-3 and is exclusive to the Kindle store, and Ammonite Stars is the omnibus edition of Books #4-5, also exclusive to the Kindle store.
