Reading Addiction Blog Tours MEET and GREET

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?

I never used to. In the beginning, I approached writing like painting, drawing, sculpting - something I did in my spare time that simply made me happy. But somewhere around the middle of book three, I realized I was giving up other things to make time for writing. It wasn't a hobby anymore, it was something I couldn't live without.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?

Revision. When a scene has played out in your own head, everything you write makes sense to you. And after you've proofread that scene enough times you think you may have it memorized, it's near impossible to see the story fresh, as a reader would, and know you're conveying it properly. Frey was my first novel and I really struggled with correcting those mistakes. Fortunately, I found a great editor who always seems to ask the right questions and clear up the fog. Now the hardest part is waiting for her comments ;)

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?

I met author RK Ryals shortly after publishing Frey, and loved her work (the YA paranormal romance Redemption). It was wonderful just to have someone to talk to about writing and publishing and all it entails, but she was also incredibly helpful with improving Frey. We've each written a series of books since, and she's still the first person I go to for advice (or an unscheduled meltdown).

#4 – What is next for your writing?

I can't say I'll never come back for more in the Frey saga, because I do have pages of notes on books four and five, but for now I'm working on something new. During the two years spent writing and revising the series, five or six ideas have been nagging at me to get out. I've got a novella half completed that's about the closest I'll probably ever get to chick lit, and am several chapters in to a YA fantasy with a bit of romance, as well as an urban fantasy that I'm very excited about. With any luck, all three will be out next year.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?

Absolutely. I have a lot going on, so I usually keep a book going wherever I'm at. Currently, I'm listening to audio versions of Mockingjay on my iPad and the Stephanie Plum series on my iPhone, as well as reading Anna Karenina on my Kindle app, and a couple of Nora Roberts paperbacks that are scattered around the house. It sounds like a mess, but I manage to keep them straight.
