Somewhere in Between Black and White

Contemporary Romance

Romance, humor, family drama, with a touch of Buddhism. Sound interesting?
When approaching life's problems, Sophie sees in black and white. That is, when they're someone else's problems. So when it comes to her sister, Sophie is sure she has all the answers, and offers them without hesitation. If only her sister would listen.
Then, through a series of chance encounters, she meets Sam, who is witty, kind, and downright unflappable. Sophie has the overwhelming sense that she's known him before, and as a relationship builds between them, odd visions invade her mind. Though she tries to dismiss them, their persistence will not allow it.
As someone who is quick to judge others, she is intrigued by Sam's ability to accept people as they are. She begins to see him as a role model, but try as she may, his accepting nature is difficult to emulate.

Will Sophie ever be able to put her hasty judgments aside and realize not every problem has a simple solution?

Hidden

Young Adult Paranormal

Sixteen-year-old Leah Grant has given up on being normal. She’d settle for stopping the voices in her head, intrusive visions of the future, and better odds of making it to her seventeenth birthday.

That’s the thing about pretending to be human in a world where magic used to exist – at any moment, her cover could be blown and she’ll be burned to death like the rest of the witches.

Everything changes when she loses control of her powers and flees the orphanage she grew up in. She desperately wants to be invisible but finds her face plastered on every news channel as humans panic over the possible resurgence of her kind. And now the hunters won’t give up until they find her.

Making friends for the first time in her life and falling in love with one of them drives her to discover why she is unlike any being she’s ever met – human or otherwise. The dangerous powers inside of her that would repel Nathan, her new, handsome reason for living, are priceless to some. The locked up forever kind of priceless. And to others, they are too dangerous to allow her to live.

Let’s hope she can stay hidden.

Culture Shock

Young Adult Paranormal

CULTURE SHOCK is a witty tale of mystery and romance with a large helping of southern hospitality.

Macy Holmes is a seventeen-year-old socially-isolated introvert since her best friend's death a year ago. When her family decides to move from Manhattan to the quaint country town of Bougainvillea, Florida, Macy finds she's in a completely different world. The more time she spends with Chad the more things don't add up. When his true identity is finally revealed, Macy is pulled into a supernatural society with its saturation of inhabitants residing in Bougainvillea.

You would think she has enough on her plate, but no, then her dreams become infiltrated by an external magical force, Macy and her band of supernatural misfits must find the culprit behind the magic-induced nightmares. They must dodge zombie assassins, shifty shape-shifters and high school bullies in order to stop this perpetrator before Macy, her friends or her parents pay the ultimate price. Especially when Macy has the sneaking suspicion that these dreams are reality...

Fate is calling…
After a strange encounter in a dark alley, journalist Tamriel’s life is turned upside down. She’s missing days, developing odd new abilities, and being followed by mysterious Leyth.
Leyth’s determined to teach Tamriel about her new life – as a werewolf!

That is, if she’s ready to give into her destiny and put up the fight of her life...

Dark, dangerous – and too gorgeous for his own good –But as their simmering

EXCERPT

Slowly, carefully, Tam moved. Only an inch as she lowered herself to the ground and, in one painstaking movement, she knelt before the wolf.
Her knife was clipped to the side of her bra and her hands itched to reach for it, but she knew it was a bad idea. Currently the wolf was showing no signs of aggression and she didn’t want to spook him again.
As she looked into those beautiful grey eyes, she saw no anger, no malice. She saw fatigue, pain and confusion. She could read the emotions behind them like a book.

As she watched him, it seemed as though he was being as careful as she to move carefully. It was almost as if it were he who didn’t want to spook her rather than the other way around. He lowered his back end to the ground, shuffling a little awkwardly around his back leg. He then proceeded to lie down completely, resting his head on his paws, keeping his eyes still locked onto hers. It was as if he’d visibly given up.

Tam slowly edged forward. She must be absolutely crazy, knowing this was a vicious wild animal and that it could tear her apart easily. Yet her gut told her the wolf wasn’t going to hurt her.

She must be going mad. She was going to end up being that weird woman that was nearly killed by a wild wolf because she thought she could be friends with it.

And yet, this moment, this intense, terrifying, incredibly special moment, was one she would treasure for the rest of her life; one she would write about and talk of over and over again to friends, family and, maybe, one day her children.

The day mommy made friends with a wolf.

Hannah Pole
I am a born and bred wild child. (Or I like to think so anyway!)

I moved to sunny Folkestone UK to escape and find my feet as, well whatever I was destined to be! But alas, my short attention span made finding that destiny a little difficult! One day I came across a diary entry that made me laugh so hard; I actually fell off my chair. (Yes, this can happen!)

I decided that the entry was so funny; it needed to be shared with the world! So I started writing, and attempted to turn it into a novel. Though to this day, that novel remains unfinished, it will always be the novel that got me started, and showed me what I was passionate about.

Honestly? I have aspired to be everything from a Private Investigator to a Zoo Keeper with my career; my interests change so quickly that I could never stick with one! Writing gives me the freedom to choose; I can be a cold-hearted assassin in love with a poet one day and the secret lesbian lover of a politician the next!

All my life, I have had a strong, unwavering passion for anything supernatural, spiritual and slightly unexplainable, I love the idea that there can be something completely fantastical lurking beneath the confines of normality. So of course, mythical creatures of all shapes and sizes dominate most of my work!

In a nutshell, I am a creative crazy bean, living with my lovely husband and a house full of too many animals! I've always secretly wished I were a werewolf of some description, but have come to realise that I will have to settle for writing about them instead! I'm happiest in the sun with my head in a good book!

All I can say from here is I hope youth like what you read!

Tour Kick Off - Live Long and Prospero by Scott Pixello

YA Humor
Date Published: 5/17/2013

This darkly comic YA novel, set on a lighthouse in 1983, introduces us to the deeplydysfunctional Captain Church and his crew of social misfits, whose well-ordered universe is turned upside down by the arrival of a marine biologist, who has come to study the local puffin colony. This in turn leads to an encounter with a nasty gang of drug dealers, a surprising undersea discovery and a hamster called Steve.

SMASHWORDS

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
I would certainly like to. Most people who make the time to write (and it takes a lot) usually secretly harbor the fantasy of making a living at it and I’m no exception. I have a day job at present, although no-one there knows that I write. I’d make a great spy.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
Probably for me it’s finding/making the time to get the words as well-chosen as I can when I’ve got several ideas swirling around my head. Sometimes ideas come almost fully formed and it’s like having a family of 10 needy children all wanting attention simultaneously- some tough love is needed at times.
Personally speaking, I’m a very shy person and remain careful about giving out information about myself, which runs counter to all the advice you read about how to be an Internet millionaire. A lot of authors are only too happy to give you chapter and verse about their perfect family, hobbies and pets and that’s fine if they want to do that. Under duress, I am on Facebook, where you can see my strange taste in music & films. Under a different name, I’ve had seven books about film published but if I tell you my real name, then I’d have to kill you and like a new Chris de Burgh single, no-one really wants to see (or hear) that.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?
Short answer, no. Maybe it would have helped but I tend to think if you want something badly enough, you’ll figure out for yourself.

#4 – What is next for your writing?
Just published my first Middle Grade fiction- Rainbow about the birth of a psychic cow on a Scottish farm during a soccer World Cup (what genre box do you tick for that?). There are about a further 10 scripts I’m working on, including Gagfest UK a comedy drama about a group of friends who meet up once a year to play pranks on people in the previous 12 months; Smart School about a terrible high school that is transformed into an academy for exceptionally-gifted kids; and A Boy Called Julia about a 12-year-old lad who joins a theatre group by accident only to discover he is working alongside one Mr Bill Shakespeare. So, lots to do…

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?
Years ago (in the days when they actually played music), MTV ran a literacy campaign with the slogan, “Feed Your Head”. For me, reading is like that- nothing goes in, nothing comes out.
At the moment I’m enjoying After Dark by Haruki Murakami, which is good but not quite as exciting as its cover (there’s a proverb there somewhere)

DESCRIBE Your Book in 1 Tweet:
Think The Tempest meets Star Trek.

This or That?
The following answers seem designed to be annoying but I reckon most people like more than one thing at a time, or interesting mixtures. I write books that are serious but also funny at times. Seriously funny? You decide.

#1 - iPd or Mp3?
Neither, I’m afraid. I have music playing almost constantly on my PC while writing but I’m a fully-fledged techno-dufus & don’t possess either of these lovely devices.

#2 – Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate is one of my five a day- comes from a bean, doesn’t it? I still have nightmares about Vanilla Ice, so no thank you.

#3 – Mashed Potatoes or French Fries?
Again, it’s all good- two more of the five, (plus pizza counts these days, I’m reliably informed). If you have seven one day, can you have three the next?

#4 – Comedy or Drama?
Comedy drama is what I try and write. Sometimes it’s one, sometimes the other, sometimes neither and occasionally both.

#5 – Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks?
Both sound like pornstar names to me. Maybe if you swap things round… Danielle Sparks & Nicholas Steele?  Oh dear, that’s worse.

#6 – Fantasy or Reality?
A bit of both please.

#7 – Call or Text?
Similar answer to no. 1. I don’t blog or Tweet or even have what I call a mobile phone!!! I write books.

#8 – Public School or Home School?
In Britain, public school means Eton or Harrow, terrible uniforms and producing obnoxious individuals who think they have a right to run the country (and usually do). Home school is for kids who live near terrible schools and have even worse parents. Not exactly a win-win situation. I live in Germany and here home schooling is actually illegal (!!!).

#9 – Coffee or Hot Chocolate
Hot chocolate for comfort; coffee to stay alive; 1970s disco band Hot Chocolate for nostalgia.

#10 – eBook or Paperback?

Both, although I think pretty soon, we’ll be dropping the e before book.

Tour Kick Off - Meet and Greet - The End of Athens by Anthony Karakai

Urban Fantasy
Date Published: 5/2/2013

In the year 2091, humans have lost the ability to dream. After decades of financial and social depression, dreams and aspirations have become a recessive gene—an impossibility of the modern mind.
Greece is one of the worst social and economic disaster zones, and all hope of a better future has been lost. One young man, Nikos, discovers that he is not like everybody else—there is something different about him.
Believing that he may be going crazy, he soon discovers that he is the only person in Greece who has inherited the ability to dream. Time is running out as the government continues its tirade of corruption and suppression against the people, and Nikos must find a way to teach others how to dream so that once more society can free itself from the shackles of mental slavery.

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
Yes.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
The editing. It is bizarre that no matter how many times you read and scan a manuscript for errors, magically something else pops up. I see it in books all the time.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?
Yes, my agent John Campbell in New York City. He always supported my writing and gave me the confidence to continue. I can’t thank him enough.

#4 – What is next for your writing?
I will be working on a sequel to my dark spy thriller, The Black Lion. It is an action novel about an elite group of intelligence officers from the CIA, KGB, ASIO, M16 and the AISE (Italian Secret Service). Known collectively as The Black Lions, they fight international crime and terrorism. The first in the series was described by one reader as ‘James Bond, but darker and more sinister.’ I would like to involve my readers actively in my future work. For example, readers could vote for the next exotic location in The Black Lion, or a key issue they would be interested in seeing addressed.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing?
If so, what are you currently reading? Most certainly. Even though I write everyday, I still manage to read at least four books per month. In the past two weeks, I’ve read The Great Gatsby, Manuscript Found in Accra, and The Beach. I am now reading The Tesseract, which is set in the Philippines.

DESCRIBE Your Book in 1 Tweet:
Psychological dream thriller The End of Athens- can Nikos lead the revolution and save Greece from despair?

This or That?

#1 - iPd or Mp3? Mp3.

#2 – Chocolate or Vanilla? Chocolate.

#3 – Mashed Potatoes or French Fries? Neither.

#4 – Comedy or Drama? Drama.

#5 – Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks? Danielle Steel.

#6 – Fantasy or Reality? A blend of both- Magical Realism.

#7 – Call or Text? Text- it’s less distracting when I’m writing.

#8 – Public School or Home School? Both are equal- education of all forms. However I believe the best education is travel.

#9 – Coffee or Hot Chocolate? Coffee.

#10 – eBook or Paperback? I love both, but eBooks for instant gratification and hard-tofind titles.

Tour Kick Off - Meet and Greet - Forty Years in a Day

Historical Fiction
Date Published: 2/19/2013

Confession is good for the soul even after the soul has been claimed...
The story begins in Italy, 1900. After years of torment and neglect, Victoria and her four small children immigrate to Hell's Kitchen, New York, to escape her alcoholic, abusive husband. On the day they leave, he tragically dies, but she does not learn of his death for several years—a secret that puts many lives on hold.
Quickly, they realize America's streets are not paved with gold, and the limits of human faith and stamina are tested time and time again. Poverty, illness, death, kidnapping, and the reign of organized crime are just some of the crosses they bear.
Victoria's eldest son, Vincenzo, is the sole surviving member of the family and shares a gut-wrenching account of their lives with his daughter during a visit to Ellis Island on his ninetieth birthday. He explains how the lives of he and his siblings have been secretly intertwined with an infamous Irish mob boss and ends his unsettling disclosure with a monumental request that leaves Clare speechless.
Forty Years in a Day is layered with the struggles and successes of each family member and defines the character of an era. Follow the Montanaro family through several decades, and stand in the shoes of a past generation.

Mona Rodriguez

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
I hope to continue to build my career as a writer, but that is up to our readers.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
Patience and validating the time and commitment it takes to go through the process.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Immediate Family?
I coauthored the book with my cousin Dianne Vigorito. She gave me the support I needed to pursue the project. I was lucky to find someone to work with, and she had an immediate interest in the idea. I also had several close friends that read the manuscript at different stages and gave us constructive feedback along the way.

#4 – What is next for your writing?
There are six cousins at the end of our story. The idea is to take that next generation into the next forty years.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?
Reading and writing go hand in hand. I just finished Beautiful Ruins by Jess Walter and a friend just gave me Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn. Reading all types of books, you take away, along with the story, a little of each author’s craft.

DESCRIBE Your Book in 1 Tweet:

Mona Rodriguez and Dianne Vigorito

Mona Rodriguez and Dianne Vigorito are cousins. Throughout their lives, they had heard many stories from family members that were fascinating, sometimes even unbelievable, and decided to piece together the puzzle of tales. Through research and interviews, their goal was to create a fictional story that follows a family through several decades, providing the reader an opportunity to stand in the shoes of a past generation and walk in search of their hopes and dreams. What they realize in the process is that human emotions have been the same throughout generations - the difference is how people are molded and maneuvered by the times and their situations. Mona and Dianne live with their husbands in New Jersey and they each have two grown sons. This is their first novel together.
