Today is the Start of the Wedding Cake Girl Blog Tour!

YA Contemporary
Date Published: July 24, 2012

Seventeen-year-old Alexandra spends so much time helping others realize their dreams
that she never has time for her own. An expert ocean diver and reluctant maker of
wedding cakes, she longs to leave roses and frosting behind to study oceanography.
Alex’s mother won’t have it—needy and dependent, Mom can’t run the family wedding
cake business on her own.

No matter what Alex does, things only get worse for her. When she saves a man's life
while scuba diving and becomes the local hero, Mom's angry with Alex for going diving
at all. Mom discourages Alex's new friendship with Jeremy, a fun and insanely wealthy
boy who happens to have a secret. Then, Alex's best friend, Zack, a hunky island guy,
starts to take an interest in her as well. The problem is, he's dating another girl.

If she doesn't do something fast, Alex will spend her life making wedding cakes and be
buried in her "Sue's Wedding Cakery" apron with a spatula in her hand.

The Wedding Cake Girl features a colorful island setting, dangerous underwater diving
adventures, a family of billionaires, and lots and lots of buttercream. The book is Alex's
journey toward not only finding love, but learning how to step forward and take control of
her own life, a rite of passage that faces all young readers.

Reading Addiction Blog Tours MEET and GREET

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?

Yes. I hope someday to earn a living this way, because I love writing and working at home.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?

The hardest part is knowing how I’m coming across, if I’m making the kind of connection with readers that I’m aiming for. I rely a lot on my beta readers for this.  They keep me from missing the mark – at least some of the time!

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?

My wonderful writing teacher, Linzi Glass.  Twice a week, I take her class in Los Angeles, where we meet in a group to read ten pages of our work and get critiqued. It’s invaluable for catching parts that are rough or unclear or that need change in some way. It’s also inspirational to see other people’s work and to cheer each other on.  I couldn’t get my books done without it!

#4 – What is next for your writing?

I’m working on a New Adult book called Girls Love Travis Walker.  It’s a bit different from both of my earlier books. The material’s more mature, but I hope it will still be a good story with characters you want to read about.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?

I’ve always loved to read, but these days it seems like I mainly read in connection with my work. My favorite books about writing are those by Donald Maas, like Fire in Fiction.  I also read the “competition,” i.e. YA books in the same genre as mine.  Two great books that I’ve read recently are Such a Rush, by Jennifer Echols, and Spill Over, by Jolene Perry.

This or That?

#1 - iPd or Mp3?   Unfortunately, neither.

#2 – Chocolate or Vanilla?  Chocolate, without question.

#3 – Mashed Potatoes or French Fries?  French Fries, again without question.

#4 – Comedy or Drama?  Comedy. I love to be entertained.

#5 – Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks?  Nicholas Sparks (The Notebook changed my life.)

#6 – Fantasy or Reality?  Reality.  As they say, truth is stranger than fiction.

#7 – Call or Text?  Call. (I’m old fashioned.)

#8 – Public School or Home School?  Public school, but that’s because I don’t know that much about home schooling.

#9 – Coffee or Hot Chocolate  Hot chocolate. Again, chocolate all the way.

#10 – eBook or Paperback?   Ebooks, because I can buy them impulsively at two in the morning.
