Tour Kick Off - Meet and Greet - Stronger Than Magic by Melinda VanLone

Urban Fantasy
Date Published: 12/20/12

Being attacked by a demon in Philadelphia shouldn’t have been a big deal. Tarian Xannon is, after all, heir to the Dolphin Throne and the strongest magical talent in generations.
Never mind that demons aren’t even supposed to exist. Never mind that the demon managed to swipe some of her blood. She’s never met her match before and she’s confident she can handle the situation.
She creates a plan to find the demon, and kill him, before he destroys her, or worse, steals her power and the Dolphin Throne.
Of course, she hadn't counted on the throne insisting that now would be a great time for her to provide the next heir.
She’s a modern woman with a demon to kill, and a baby to produce. What could possibly go wrong?

Melinda VanLone writes fantasy and science fiction, freelances as a graphic designer, and dabbles in photography. She currently lives in Rockville, Maryland, with her husband and furbabies. When she's not playing with her imaginary friends you can find her playing World of Warcraft, wandering aimlessly through the streets taking photos, or hovered over coffee in Starbucks.

Reading Addiction Blog Tours MEET and GREET

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
Since I quit my day job to pursue this dream, I definitely see it as a career.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
Ignoring the plot bunnies. They like to come out to play while I’m working on
important scenes. Plot bunnies are shiny new ideas for completely different
stories, and they frolic in front of me so that I end up playing with them instead of
finishing the scene. I often have to make a note of the idea and then sternly send
myself back to work.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing
Outside of Your Family?
So many people helped me I don’t even know how to account for them all; from
the high school teacher who encouraged me to write to the last online class I
took with Les Edgerton, and all the beta readers and teachers in between. I’ve
learned from all kinds of people in a variety of settings. Knowledge is everywhere
if you look for it, and even someone who simply likes to read can help improve
my writing by telling me what they liked and didn’t like.

#4 – What is next for your writing?
I’m currently working on Harder Than Magic, which is the sequel to my debut
novel. I hope to publish it sometime in the spring, so people won’t have long to
wait to find out what happens to Tarian next.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you
currently reading?
Oh yes, I’ve always been addicted to reading. I credit my parents with that.
My mother used to read to us every day when we were little, until we were old
enough to read to ourselves of course. To this day I’d rather pick up a book than
watch TV. It was the activity I turned to during the teen years as a way to escape
whatever tragedy had happened that day, and it was a way to visit fantastic
places. If I could crawl inside a book and live, I would.

Right now, I’m reading Web of Lies, by Jennifer Estep. It’s an urban fantasy,
about a kick-butt girl assassin with an affinity for Stone magic. Fun read!
