Tour Kick Off - Meet and Greet - Awakening Colors by Ritu K. Gupta

Paranormal Mystery
Date Published: 4/12/13

Awakening Colors will take you on a magical adventure!
Read this fascinating story that weaves together current times with ancient mythologies. Set in modern day Toronto, this book is an exciting story of adventures that evolve across material worlds into illusions and beyond.
Using his powers to reach into the world of illusions, Arche Lasarre is able to change destinies.  The power of his manipulations threatens all three worlds: the material, the illusionary and the timeless.
Visions of constantly changing destinies and futures depicted in vibrant colors - this is what Pari sees.  Mystified and confused, Pari initially hides her visions from others. She dismisses them as hallucinations.
Guided by scrolls left to her by the spiritual master Chanakya, Pari needs to discover her powers and define her own destiny.  Will she be seduced by the lure of Arche's power of illusions?  Will she choose her own path?  What will Pari do?

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?

Writing is a passion and so yes, I see it as my primary career.  Although it doesn’t pay like one J  I have been writing for as long as I can remember.  As kids, my sister and me would attempt to talk in rhymes.  For anyone who has attempted this, you know that talking in rhymes means not just finding a word that rhymes but making that word fit with the conversation.  That’s spinning a story on the fly!  It’s extempore fiction and it is great fun.

Writing is also something I have done consistently.  I have held many types of jobs – programmer, sales, entrepreneur, finance, management, etc. I have built and changed careers several times.  Now in hindsight, I can see that even though writing didn’t make much money for me, it remains my consistent form of labor… of love.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?

The hardest part is taking the wrong turn.  Sometimes when I am writing, I may feel strongly about how the story should turn next.  I’ll take that turn and go along the path feeling the words dry up.  Facing a dead-end, I realize that I took the wrong turn somewhere.

Then I have to go back and find exactly where I lost my way in the story… so that I can find my words and keep writing.

I have learned that no matter how I may want the story to progress, there is an organic way that I need to follow.  If I can shelve my own expectations of the story, it will grow into something gorgeous which will surprise and bedazzle me.

So the hardest part is keeping my own judgments and expectations in check and simply writing the story as it wants to unfold.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?

I have two very good friends – Arlene and Sheila – who are also my biggest supporters and my first readers.  They give me genuine criticism and ground me.

#4 – What is next for your writing?

Awakening Colors is going to be followed by Becoming Colors, which is in the process of finalization.  I’ve sent off my rewrites to the editor and hope to have it ready for publishing next month.

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?

Yes, I read constantly.  I read anything and everything from fiction to non-fiction.  I read indies and traditional press.  And I often read more than one book at a time.  For example, currently I’m reading “Wild” by Cheryl Strayed during my train ride to and from my day job, and “Bombay Bhel” by Ken Doyle in the evenings.
