Set against the backdrop of Dublin newspapers, Going Against Type is the story of two rival newspaper columnists, who write under pen names, and unknowingly fall for their arch enemy: each other.
Sports writer Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Regan gets an opportunity to write a new column under the pen name Side Swipe, and is soon drawn into a war of words and wit with a rival paper’s gossip columnist, The Squire,  getting readers and editors talking.
When Charlotte meets Derry Cullinane, their attraction is instant. But as their relationship develops, they discover there's more at stake than protecting their alter egos

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
I do see writing as a career. Having started out as a journalist, I know a lot of people weren’t that surprised when I turned to creative writing. But creative writing is a huge leap, to be honest. And it was quite daunting in the beginning, because every new step I took, meant pushing myself out of my comfort zone. Having said that, it’s great fun, and I’m in it for the long haul.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
I loved writing my debut; it certainly wasn’t the first novel I ever started, but it was the first one I finished. I suppose the hardest part was making it feel real. It had to feel real for me, so it would feel real for everyone who read it. And much of that is just down to working at it every day.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?
I had wonderful readers for my debut, who gave me excellent feedback. They’re all mentioned in my acknowledgements!!

#4 – What is next for your writing?
My second novel is in progress. And I have an idea for my third. What drives me is the need to be better than I am. I’m a firm believer of practice makes…well, if not perfect, then a lot better!

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?
I was a reader from a young age, and it’s still the way I unwind. I read a lot of so-called ‘women’s fiction’, stuff in my genre, and I also read a lot of literary fiction. I’m currently enjoying ‘Harvest’ by Jim Crace.

  2. That's a great interview Sharon and a very interesting site. All the best with sales for 'Going Against Type'
and with your second and third books. Interesting to read that your debut wasn't the first book you'd penned but so
glad you got it finished and published. It's next on my list to read. Now I can't wait to get stuck into it.

  4. Cathy, thanks so much for your kind comments. I know most of us have TBR piles, but I've been told my book is a fast read. Wasn't quite that fast to write!!
    Thanks for stopping by.

  5. Thanks for your comments, Kem. I know, I loved answering these questions. I actually know loads of people who have potatoes with everything - even pasta or rice. As far as they're concerned, a meal wouldn't be complete without their spuds.
I still have fantasies about this book being made into a movie.
