Tour Kick Off: Wealth & Privilege and Brains & Beauty by @JeanetteAWatts #giveaway

Historic Fiction

2013 / 2015

Book One (Wealth & Privilege)
Boy meets girl, falls in love at first sight. Oops, she's already married. Bad planning. She becomes a friend and a muse, helps him find his voice. He knows that no one gets to capture their own muse, but he can dream, can't he...?

Book Two (Brains & Beauty)
Girl meets boy, falls in love at first sight. Kind of unfortunate for a married woman. He becomes her best friend, the only man in her life that she can really count on. She wishes there could be more to it. There can't be, but she can dream, can't she...?

#1 – Do You See Writing as a Career?
Only for the very lucky. In this day and age, it's hard to make a living by one's pen.

#2 – What was the Hardest Part of Your Writing Process?
I have a process? Cool!  The hardest part of writing is finding the time to do it. Life is full of distractions - including spending time working on book promotion, instead of writing another book! It's a very important part of being an author, but it's hard finding enough hours in the day - and still getting the laundry done.

#3 – Did you have any One Person Who Helped You Out with Your Writing Outside of Your Family?
My friend Leah, who has a dedication in Wealth and Privilege, was the single most important reason I have a finished novel. I'd been working on the book off and on for years. But that thing I said about finding time to write? Yeah. Big problem. Life is full of demands and distractions. I knew if I ever wanted to finish the book, I needed to reprioritize my life. I was getting the laundry done, and the errands, and the cleaning, but not the writing. To help me change that, she called me every single day, and asked me one question - "Have you worked on your book yet?" At that point, I'd put down whatever other thing I was doing, and I'd sit down to write. Or I'd get to it later if I could. I couldn't stand it if I went too many days answering "No" when she asked the question. It really did help me focus my priorities.

#4 – What is next for your writing?
I've got a modern satire coming out soon, called Jane Austen Lied to Me. It's a big departure from the historical fiction. I still had to do my research, because I had to have all my Jane Austen characters right.  But it was much less intense writing.  It was sort of a mental vacation. I have several other historical fiction books banging at the inside of my brain, I need to get those daily phone calls started again soon...

#5 – Do you have an addiction to reading as well as writing? If so, what are you currently reading?
I always have a book or two in progress! Right now I'm reading Anna Karenina.  It takes place during the same time as Wealth and Privilege and Brains and Beauty, it's fun to see the Industrial Revolution from a different persepctive.

Boy Meets Girl. It's Complicated. #lovestory

This or That?

#1 - iPd or Mp3?
I'm obviously behind the times. Isn't the iPod for playing Mp3s? I actually have a laptop for my music collection. I teach dance, so I have thousands of songs sorted by genre and organized in tempo order. And they are .WAV files, because .wav files aren't compressed.

#2 – Chocolate or Vanilla?
Chocolate Nutty Moose Tracks. Turkey Hill Farms makes it, it's to die for. I can't get it in Ohio anymore, this is something of a personal crisis for me. It's about as much chocolate as you can fit in one bowl... all for 140 calories!

#3 – Mashed Potatoes or French Fries?
Depends on what it goes with! French Fries for burgers, mashed potatoes for beef or turkey or some other simple roasted meat. I'm a traditionalist that way...

#4 – Comedy or Drama?
Depends on what I'm in the mood for. Comedy is definitely the thing when you're having a bad day and just want something fluffy, but dramas make you think more. Both are necessary for a balanced life.

#5 – Danielle Steel or Nicholas Sparks?
I haven't read either, sorry! But I do read lots of David McCullough and some Philippa Gregory.

#6 – Fantasy or Reality?
Reality, always. Even when I write historic fiction, the emphasis is on historic, not fiction.

#7 – Call or Text?
Yeah, I love texting...why leave phone messages when you can state your business in a text, and people will answer when they get the chance.

#8 – Public School or Home School?
Public, all the way!

#9 – Coffee or Hot Chocolate
Why does it always have to be one or the other with you.... haven't you ever heard of MOCHA?

#10 – eBook or Paperback?

I prefer to have a book in my hands. I'm sorry to all the trees I've killed...

Jeanette Watts is a dance instructor and performer of many different kinds of dance, a costumer, a former television producer, and a big softie who can't learn to say no when people need help with their festivals. It makes it really difficult for her to get time to write.
